Summer activities

So much to do

Heathfield Summer Camp offers a daily programme of art, crafts, photography, cookery, drama, music, floristry and a whole range of field, water and racquet sports.

The programme is designed so that girls are grouped together by age. The fun packed activities vary throughout the four-week period but not all activities are available each week. Many of these activities are shared with our International Summer School students, providing a great opportunity to meet and make friends with girls from all over the world!

Art & Design

One of the girls’ favourite activities at Heathfield is creating things to decorate their rooms and take home to parents or working on projects with their friends. Our teachers look at the work of artists, styles and movements in art through the decades and across the world to inspire the girls.

We work in the three studios and outside, and link a lot of creative work to the different course themes we have each year. Students design their own T-shirts, bags and costumes for fashion shows and themed discos. They also make scenery, signs and props for our many shows and festivals. The art department can offer many activities but here are just a few:

  • Drawing and painting
  • Fabric design
  • Glass painting
  • Jewellery making
  • Card making
  • Textile work
  • Paper marbling
  • Silk painting
  • Watercolours with wax
  • Modelling with fimo clay
  • Papier-mâché
  • Collage

Dance

Our specialist teachers offer a range of classes incorporating a wide variety of dance styles including Ballet, Contemporary, Hip Hop, Jazz, Salsa, Street and Zumba.

Drama

We offer one hour lessons, working on improvisation, mime, shows, stage fighting and workshop performances. Students can also work on their own individual performances incorporating their own stories and scripts.

Cookery

The school’s cookery suite is busy all day long. Students learn to make a variety of sweet and savoury items from fairy cakes and fruit jalousies to mini pizzas and cheese straws. They also create specialities from different countries. Cake decoration is also very popular.

Horse Riding

One hour riding instruction is provided for small groups which take place twice a week at The Berkshire Riding Centre. This is a BHS highly commended Riding School which has indoor and outdoor facilities. The Berkshire Riding Centre caters for all levels of horsemanship.

Photography

Our photography teacher offers girls the chance to style and take studio portraits of themselves and their friends, to do outdoor photography and more abstract work and to turn some of their favourite shots into post cards and pictures. We also run a summer photography competition.

Shows

Our Shows are now part of the
Performing Arts Academy.

Summer Campers attending in weeks 1 and 3 will Take part in our end of week show based on the Theme for the week. Our shows in our purpose-built Performing Arts Centre is a highlight for all the students involved. The Shows see girls of all ages from Britain and all around the world working and performing together, having fun and cementing their friendships. We make our own props, costumes and sets as well as computer images to project as backdrops onto the theatre wall.

In the evenings and at week-ends girls take part in Shows such as the Dance and Fashion Show and our own ‘Heathfield’s Got Talent Show’.

On the final Friday evening, before the farewell disco, there is the popular Staff Show based on life at Heathfield transported into a popular film world! Recent highlights have included ‘Frozen Heathfield’ and ‘Heathfield School Musical’.
