WELLBEING AND SAFEGUARDING

Statement

Wellbeing and Safeguarding at Heathfield Summer School

At Heathfield Summer School, the wellbeing and safety of every student is at the heart of everything we do. We maintain robust safeguarding procedures and ensure that all staff are fully trained to support students throughout their time with us.

If at any point you have concerns about a student’s welfare or safety, please contact the summer school office immediately. During working hours, you can reach us through the main summer school number. Outside of these hours, an emergency contact number is available so that support can always be accessed when needed.

Safeguarding

The safety and wellbeing of every student is our highest priority. All staff working at the summer school complete safeguarding training before beginning their roles. This training is delivered by our Designated Safeguarding Lead, Alex Healey, and ensures that every member of staff understands how to recognise and report concerns promptly and appropriately.

Throughout the school site, students will find clear safeguarding posters showing who the safeguarding team are and who they can talk to if they need help. Staff are fully trained in how to raise concerns, and the safeguarding team responds quickly and effectively to any issues that arise.

Lanyards

To maintain a safe and secure environment, all adults on site either hold a current DBS certificate—verified by the school—or are supervised at all times. Our lanyard system helps staff identify adults on site quickly and ensures that access to buildings is appropriately controlled.

  • Blue lanyards: Summer school staff
  • Green lanyards: Contractors who are DBS Checked
  • Red lanyards: Adults who must be supervised at all times and who do not have access to school buildings

Parents, guardians or agents visiting outside of designated arrival days must also be supervised for the duration of their visit.

First Aid

A qualified nurse is on site daily from 08:00–18:00, and many staff — including all housemothers and most activity leaders — hold first aid qualifications. If a student requires medical attention beyond what can be provided on site, the nurse or a qualified first aider will arrange an appointment at the nearest urgent care centre or accompany the student to Frimley Park Hospital, which operates 24/7.
